Description

Only a few years ago, it was common practice in telecommunications and data technology to provide active network components with permanently installed fiber optic ports. The connections of the devices were thus fixed to a given technology. In the meantime, the majority of all active network components are equipped with modular transceiver ports, which can be equipped with various transceivers for different connection types. This offers the user much greater flexibility when configuring the network. At the same time, the modular concept enables a more economical operation through the demand oriented expansion of the fiber optic ports as a simple and stepwise technology change.

Only a few of the renowned, globally operating manufacturers of active network components manufacture their transceivers themselves. They usually buy them from specialized suppliers and offer them at high prices on the market under their own name. To ensure that components from different manufacturers are compatible with each other, the technical requirements for transceivers were defined in the MSA standard (Multi-Source Agreement). The users benefit considerably from this standardization as they have access to a broader base of suppliers. Increased competition on the supplier market helps to reduce costs and optimize component availability. MICROSENS offers a comprehensive portfolio of transceivers for different media, data rates, transmission distances, mechanical designs and protocols. The components meet the requirements of the MSA standard and are therefore fully compatible with all devices that comply with this standard.

Not all manufacturers of active network components follow the idea of interoperability and provide their transceivers with special codes. The codes programmed into the transceivers is intended to ensure that customers only use components from this manufacturer. As an innovative technology company, MICROSENS also offers transceivers with manufacturer-specific coding. This ensures that MICROSENS transceivers also work reliably in active components of manufacturers that do not face the market. These transceivers are up to 80 % cheaper than the solutions of the original equipment manufacturers, which greatly relieves the usually tight IT budget of many users. Since the special code is not permanently burned into the electronics of the transceiver, but only programmed in, MICROSENS transceivers can be reprogrammed if required (MICROSENS Programmer). This means they are also fully compatible with the devices of other manufacturers.
