New Generation of MICROSENS FTTO Micro Switches

The German specialist for fiber optic transmission systems, MICROSENS, introduces the latest generation of its proven Gigabit Ethernet switches, which is another milestone in the field of highly efficient FTTO networking. The "Fiber To The Office" (FTTO) concept , developed by MICROSENS, combines the advantages of future-proof fiber optic technology with the flexibility of copper-based twisted-pair cabling and thus helps to significantly reduce energy spendings and IT operating costs of modern office environments. The newly presented Micro Switches are the key elements of this innovative high-efficiency FTTO networks.

Future-proof hardware-based and optimized energy efficiency

The new generation 6 of the MICROSENS Micro Switches is the result of years of development and represents a high state of reliability and state-of-the-art network management. The new optimized hardware base saves up to 30 percent of energy costs compared to the previous version. The MICROSENS Micro Switches are equipped with an integrated network management and support all current security management protocols such as SNMPv3/SSH/https. The innovative approach of the Linux-based firmware also allows more flexibility in the implementation of future protocols and security requirements, providing companies with long-term security and investment protection. Additionally, the new generation of the MICROSENS Micro Switches also supports IPv6 dual-stack, making it future proof for upcoming requirements.

Enhanced configuration management

Also, the configuration management has been further developed. The new installation switches now support configuration data to be saved on a  SD memory card that is secured against unauthorized access. Thus commonly used configuration parameters can be quickly transferred to other devices. In case of equipment changes it is sufficient to exchange only the memory card while all settings including the IP and MAC addresses will be automatically transferred. This speeds up maintenance processes and prevents from unnecessary downtime.

Optimized case in monolithic design

The case design of the switches has also been completely revised. In addition to its visual appeal, quality materials and a new, easily accessible port-arrangement, special emphasis was placed on the ease and flexibility of the installation, both vertically and horizontally. Thanks to the optimized housing base and specially levelled edges, the robust devices can now be installed even easier and in shorter time.

The switches spare moving parts and easily accessible screws, in order to ensure the protection of theft and vandalism in publicly accessible areas. The new design concept integrates seamlessly into modern office environments. The switches are available in the colours white, anthracite and aluminium.

In addition to versions with integrated 230 VAC power supply, the Micro Switches are also available with Power over Ethernet (PoE) function, for powering connected devices such as VoIP phones, IP cameras and access points directly over the network cabling. The new PoE+ standard IEEE 802.3at with a maximum output of 30 watts per port is supported on all copper ports of the MICROSENS Micro Switches. The new switches are available as 6-port version, with one fiber uplink, one copper downlink, and 4 local copper-based Gigabit Ethernet ports (10/100/1000 Mbps). The new models will be launched at the end of Q2/2012.

About MICROSENS

Transmitting information via fiber optic connections offers numerous benefits. MICROSENS GmbH & Co. KG recognised this very early on. As one of the pioneers, the company has developed and produced high-performance communications and transmission systems in Germany since 1993. Individually matched to the demands of diverse usage areas and embedded in comprehensive concepts for individual sectors. But, above all, close to the customer. Technical challenges from customer projects are incorporated directly into product development. This way, IP-based automation solutions are created for modern buildings, cost-efficient network concepts for the office and workspace, robust and fail-safe solutions for industrial environments, optical transport systems future-oriented wide area networks and efficient coupling of sites and computer centres.
